We Ride Skeletal Lightning

Thursday, 14 April 2011

The words 'skeleton' and 'bones' have been used pretty frequently in reference to the recent fashion shows in London and Paris, with designers like as Erdem coming under scrutiny for continuing to use 'size zero' models. When I think of these words my mind automatically thinks about the on-going relationship that designers seem to have with the subject- and how the translation to fashion, never ceases to amaze me.

I have always had a weird obsession with all things bones and it has become, over time, one of my favourite things to draw.

I especially love the different planes you find on the bone structure and how it's never really flat, even though it may appear to be. This is the side to the fashion translation I love also. Although I love the tongue-in-cheek humour used by Castelbajac and Manish, I prefer a more subtle, gentle nudge toward the subject.

And let's not forget one of the most beautiful couture collections to grace God's green earth, Givenchy's Fall 2010 'The Bone Collector'

J'Adore!

Now I'll leave you with this. Turn it up and enjoy
